Rwanda

A country synonymous with all that is good in Africa. From gorilla trekking in pristine rainforest to exploring the vibrant food scene of Kigali, Rwanda has taken luxurious adventures to another level.

Experience

Rwanda is a country that defies expectation. Will first travelled there curious about the gorillas, but left in awe of so much more. Few places have undergone such a powerful transformation; just thirty years on from the horrors of the genocide, Rwanda is now one of Africa’s safest, cleanest, and most forward-thinking nations. The resilience of its people is matched only by the beauty of its landscapes.

Volcanoes National Park is the crown jewel, misty, mysterious and home to the endangered mountain gorilla. Trekking through bamboo forests with expert trackers and locking eyes with a silverback is one of the most moving wildlife encounters you can have. Will always says this isn’t just a safari moment, it’s a life moment.

But Rwanda isn’t just about gorillas. The country’s conservation success is quietly astonishing, and there’s a deep sense of pride in how far it’s come. Whether you’re hiking the volcanoes, learning about Dian Fossey’s legacy, or spending time in Kigali soaking in its calm confidence, Rwanda leaves a mark.

For those looking for a safari that’s as much about people and progress as it is wildlife, Rwanda offers something truly profound. Will believes it should be on everyone’s list at least once.

Best Time to Visit

Rwanda is a year round destination but Will is always quick to point out that some months suit gorilla trekking better than others. The best time to visit is during the two dry seasons when the forest trails are more manageable and the chances of rain are lower. From mid December to early March the weather is warm and relatively dry which makes for great trekking conditions. June to September is the long dry season and Will’s preferred window for gorilla trekking. Skies are clearer, photography is easier and the walking is more comfortable.

The rainy seasons fall in April + May and again in October + November. While trekking is still possible and sightings remain strong, the trails can get muddy and slippery. That said, the rain brings lush green scenery and fewer travellers so it can be a rewarding time if you are prepared.
