Mountain Gorillas of Rwanda
Rwanda, August 2026

Trip Summary
Gorilla trekking is the most exciting, intimate wildlife experiences in Africa - and genuinely Will's favourite African animal to photograph. 'The' shot still eludes him, even after over a dozen treks, but he feels he get a little closer every time he ventures up those epic volcanoes.
This safari includes four gorilla treks, the most Will has ever offered on a group trip - having traditionally only ever offered three. It also includes a golden monkey trek on the final morning in Rwanda. This ensures you do not need to add an extra night of accommodation and helps to mitigate costs, but also ensures you are back in Kigali long before you have to meet your international flights.
This is the more exclusive of the two Rwanda itineraries Will is offering in 2026. A group size of just three and accommodation at the wonderful Sambora Kinigi.

Overview
With four treks up the volcanoes to see the most enchanting of all African animals this a dedicated gorilla trekking itinerary. A small number of the group will also be heading to Nyungwe before the gorilla trekking to enjoy a chimpanzee habituation experience, if you would like to join this please let Will know when making your enquiry.
Day 1
All guests need to arrive in Kigali (Rwanda's capital) by Friday August 22nd where you'll stay at The Retreat by Hemingways and meet the rest of the group over a relaxed dinner in the hotel.
Day 2
A tour of the Rwanda genocide museum in the morning will enable you to really understand the country and its history before the stunning three hour drive to Sambora Kinigi, in the foothills of Volcanoes National Park. Arriving in time for a late lunch, relaxed afternoon and a pre trek briefing.
Days 3 - 6
Over the next four days you will enjoy four separate gorilla treks - visiting four different families in the process. Each day will vary from the last and you'll be back in camp for a late lunch and afternoon editing session (or spa treatment!)
Gorilla Trekking
Each day starts at the park headquarters with a Rwanda coffee and safety briefing at 7am. From here we will drive to the start of the trekking point and begin the adventure. It can take anything from 30 minutes to three hours to reach the gorillas - depending on the family we are seeing - and we then get one hour with these amazing animals.
Day 7
Even though it is our last day there is still time for one final adventure - a golden monkey trek. These little animals live much lower down the volcano so are easily reached and means we can squeeze this in before an early lunch and drive back to Kigali in time for international flights home.
Costs
Prices start at $15,570 (including four trekking permits at $1,500 each). To enquire or reserve a space please email info@williamfortescue.com or use the enquiry form below.
