"I just know this part of the world is one I am going to be spending a lot of time in over the next decade, and I am delighted about that."

There are two regions that I favour more than any other, one is Alaska and the other is Svalbard. Both I venture to in search of two huge animals; grizzlies and polar bears respectively, and each offer such vast landscapes they dwarf these giants I am photographing.

2025 was the first year I made it to Alaska, following failed trips around Covid, and I was immediately captivated by the landscape. We had timed our trip for May, so even the smallest peaks were still snow capped, a blanket of white racing towards the sea, halted only by the bravest spruce trees that, many years before, had ventured as high up the slope as they dared, nudged from below by a thin layer of silver birch, one of the few deciduous trees able to survive an Alaskan winter.

Behind the Lens

2025 saw my first trip to this incredible corner of the world, but I have no doubt it will be the first of many.
