Tutka Bay Lodge
Without doubt one of Will's favourite destinations in the northern hemisphere, no trip to Alaska is complete without staying here.

Life in Camp
2025 marked Will's first foray in to Alaska and he was hooked immediately, largely in part to the team and the activities at Tutka Bay Lodge. Whether it was their amazing food, genuine passion for connecting their guests to the environment and peoples they share the area with or he was just blown away by seeing his first bears, it's hard to say - but all are worth experiencing at least once in life! If you are planning a trip to Alaska expect Tutka Bay to feature on your itinerary - Will finds it hard to believe there isn't something here for everyone - even if you spend your time between epic meals just enjoying the view or making the most of the numerous hikes around the lodge. For those looking for more though you can take the helicopter out over the surrounding glaciers and hike (or even camp) miles from anyone and anywhere, get out in kayaks and keep your fingers crossed for whale sightings or head out fishing for halibut and salmon.

Timing Your Trip
Tutka Bay Lodge closes for the winter months and is best visiting in the summer, although weather here is never predictable but English guests will be well used to this.
For those looking for the best bear viewing wait for the salmon to run - July onwards traditionally - or for those looking for those stunning autumn colours wait till mid September.
Temperatures here rarely make it too high, but 15 degrees can feel like 25 when out bear viewing, so best to dress for all eventualities.

Famous For
Phenomenal Food - Will believes this may be the best food he has ever had on safari. From fresh Alaskan crab and salmon through to stunning home grown vegetables and berries, food here is taken very, very seriously.
Epic Activities - Be it heading out early on kayaks, searching for whales in the coves around the lodge or taking to the sky with the resident chopper pilot to fly over (and land on) glaciers, you can fill each day with something wildly different to the last.
Bear Viewing - Experience one of Alaska's main attractions and fly directly from the lodges pontoon via float plane in to Katmai National Park and go in search of coastal brown bears - the biggest brown bears in the world.

Will's Ideal Pairing
"This has a lot to do with time, budget and interests. Alaska is vast and for those interested in more wildlife then consider heading back to Anchorage and enjoying a number of amazing day excursions, for those a little more adventurous consider Sheldon Chalet - an exclusive use ski chalet on the slopes of America's tallest peak."
