Image Story

"For all the chaos of the storm, it is the slight flick of the tail that brings this image together."

This is one of thousands of lion images I have taken in Namiri Plains, a haven for lions in the eastern Serengeti, and without doubt one of my favourites.

It plays in to my wheelhouse - taken from fairly close to the subject and with a usually wild sky above, yet despite this there is such an element of calm in the image.

I had in fact been photographing her and a male she was with, which culminated in the image Holy Matrimony and then Romance is Dead - but this was one of those little moments between the action. Ones I often miss as my cameras are away or I am mid way through a conversation about utter nonsense with my guide, Anderson Mwampashe.

Were I to pick a lioness image to go on my wall at home, this would likely be it. Instead it now resides in America, among other places and I will have to take something else to fill that gap.

Behind the Lens

I look forward to my shoots in Namiri Plains perhaps more than anywhere else in Africa. The potential here for imagery is amazing, I'm not sure I have even scratched the surface yet.
