Encounter Mara
A classic tented camp set in the heart of Naboisho Conservancy, Encounter Mara offers front row wildlife, beautifully simple design and serious guiding. Expect big skies, quiet mornings and wildlife on your doorstep. A proper safari experience in one of Kenya’s most rewarding regions.

Life in Camp
Tucked into a tree line overlooking a natural salt lick, Encounter Mara is quietly positioned in one of the most productive corners of Naboisho Conservancy. Wildlife flows through camp. Giraffe at breakfast, zebra before sundown, and lions often heard long before they are seen. The camp’s ten canvas tents are well spaced, each with a private veranda and en-suite bathroom. Two larger tents cater comfortably to families. Walking safaris, night drives and cultural visits are all on offer, alongside classic morning and afternoon game drives with experienced, locally trained guides. Days here move at an easy rhythm. It is a camp that favours the curious—those happy to wait, to watch and to let the experience unfold naturally. With few other vehicles in the area and an open conservancy to explore, this is the Mara with space to breathe.

Timing Your Trip
For soft light, green plains and active wildlife, March, April and November are ideal. These months offer vivid colour, dramatic skies and quieter roads throughout the conservancy. January, February and October are warm and dry, perfect for longer days in the field and walking safaris. Will recommends visiting outside the peak migration season, when the landscape feels calm and undisturbed. It is in these quieter windows that the camp’s setting and guiding shine brightest, with time and space to take it all in. Those hoping to see the migration should visit in August but be aware that tourist numbers are significant and this will affect both costs and your safari experience.

Famous For
Encounter Mara is best known for its views over a natural salt lick that attracts a steady stream of wildlife throughout the day. From your tent or the main deck, it is not uncommon to watch elephants, antelope or giraffe pass through as you sip your morning coffee. The camp’s structure is light on the land, with an eco-sensitive design and a strong focus on responsible tourism. Asilia’s involvement in guiding development and community support gives each stay extra depth, making this more than just a safari—it is a stay that contributes meaningfully to the place itself.
