Life in Camp
Set within the expansive 200,000-hectare NamibRand Nature Reserve, Kwessi Dunes provides an immersive desert experience. The camp’s 12 chalets are designed with canvas walls and thatched roofs, offering air-conditioned comfort amidst the arid landscape. Each chalet features an en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, and a shaded veranda with 180 degree views of the desert. A distinctive feature is the separate ‘star gazer’ room, open to the sky, allowing guests to fully appreciate the reserve’s status as Africa’s first International Dark Sky Reserve. Activities include scenic drives, nature walks, quad biking, hot air ballooning, helicopter flights, horse riding, and day trips to Sossusvlei - those famous trees. A stunning swimming pool offers the perfect way to cool down in the middle of the day and time to reflect on this staggering environment.
Timing Your Trip
Kwessi Dunes welcomes guests year-round, with each season offering distinct experiences. From April to October, during Namibia’s dry winter season, daytime temperatures are pleasant, though mornings and evenings can be cool. This period showcases the desert in its iconic, arid state, ideal for photographers. Keep an eye out for one of Will’s upcoming group safaris in this window.
The summer months, from November to March, bring warmer temperatures and occasional rainfall, leading to a transformation of the desert as flora blooms and wildlife becomes more active. Regardless of the season, the air-conditioned chalets ensure a comfortable stay, and the range of activities available allows guests to fully experience the beauty of the NamibRand Nature Reserve.
