Namiri Plains

One of Will's favourite camps - it'll soon be five years in a row he's visited - where luxury blends with exclusivity seamlessly. Not to be missed on a Tanzanian safari.

Life in Camp

Deep in the heart of big cat country, Namiri Plains offers guests the chance to witness lions, cheetah and leopard in action. The area benefits from 20 years of minimal human footprint as the Frankfurt Zoological Society conducted a study on the areas big cats. Now, as tourism is slowly reintroduced to the area the benefits of this study are clear to see. Cheetah populations are booming with successful hunts seen almost daily by Namiri Plains guests while Will saw 21 different lion cubs on his last visit in March 2025. On top of this the camp itself is one of the best in the Serengeti, with a pool and spa to keep you fresh and relaxed between game drives, first rate food and beautiful service. Easily one of Will's top Tanzania picks.

Timing Your Trip

For photographers it's March, April and November. The rains arrive and bring those epic storms so craved by those with camera in hand. For those looking to avoid the rains and enjoy the sunshine by the pool consider January and February or the summer months of June through October.

Famous For

This might just be the best place in Africa to photograph lions and cheetah. Will has run three safaris here in the last three years and is returning for two safaris in 2025 and 2026. The attraction? The big cats.

Whether its the rock climbing males, the tree scaling cheetahs or just simply witnessing kill after kill on the open plains as this expanding cat population feeds itself, there is so much to cover here as a photographer. It's why Will keep going again, and again, and again.

Will's Ideal Pairing

"This all depends on time of year. Those visiting early in the year (January and February) should consider the migration camps around Ndutu to go in search of wildebeest, those a little later in the year perhaps the Ngorongoro crater or get off the beaten track and head to Lake Tanganyika to trek with chimpanzees"
