Timing Your Trip
There’s no bad time to visit Volcanoes National Park, but some seasons make things easier. The dry months, June to September and again from December to February offer clearer trails and more stable weather. For trekking, it’s the most straightforward time to go.
That said, the wetter seasons bring their own kind of magic. From March to May, and again in November, the landscape becomes even more vivid. The forest glows green, the air clears after rainfall, and the mist that settles over the volcanoes gives the place an almost mythical feel.
Gorillas don’t migrate - they’re here all year - so the decision comes down to what kind of atmosphere you’re after. Will tends to visit just outside of peak season, when there’s a little more space to breathe and the light hangs low in the mornings. Whatever your choice, Kwitonda ensures the experience is nothing short of extraordinary.

Famous For
Kwitonda is known for the way it blends quiet design with purposeful detail. Soaring glass walls bring the outside in, private plunge pools overlook open meadows, and the stone-lined fireplaces feel grounding after a day on the trail. The Gear Room makes trekking prep feel effortless, while the kitchen garden and conservation spaces offer a deeper look into what Singita is building here; not just a lodge, but a legacy.

Will's Ideal Pairing
“For me Rwanda’s gorillas are its best asset. While you could branch in to Akagera for a few days I prefer to fly people on to the Serengeti where any number of options awaits. Stick with the Singita level of luxury and head to Sabora or perhaps head further east and get in to your big cat photography at Namiri Plains.”
