Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe is a safari purist’s dream. From walking safaris in Mana Pools to elephant encounters in Hwange and the untamed beauty of Malilangwe, this is safari stripped back to its wild roots. Remote, raw and full of soul, Zimbabwe rewards the curious.

Experience
Zimbabwe is where the real bush magic happens. Will has long said it is one of the most underrated safari destinations in Africa, and the more you're there, the more it gets under your skin. At the top of the list is Mana Pools, a place where walking safaris are the norm and getting out on foot alongside expert guides is what it is all about. Watching elephants stand on two legs to reach the trees or tracking wild dogs along the riverbank is safari at its most thrilling.
Then there is Hwange, a vast and varied park known for its enormous elephant herds and strong predator numbers. With wide open pans, teak forests and excellent guiding, Hwange delivers on all fronts and is easy to combine with a visit to Victoria Falls.
Tucked away in the south lies Malilangwe, a private reserve that feels completely off the grid. With rhino, big cats and a backdrop of rocky kopjes and baobabs, it is a place Will recommends for those wanting something seriously special. Zimbabwe does not shout like some of its neighbours, but for those who know, it is gold.

Best Time to Visit
Zimbabwe is best visited during the dry season from May through October when water sources shrink and wildlife gathers in impressive numbers. June to August brings cooler mornings and excellent walking conditions, particularly in Mana Pools where the floodplains open up and sightings on foot are superb. September and October heat up but offer some of the best game viewing of the year.
November can be a transition month with the first rains arriving, while December to March is the green season. This time brings dramatic skies and lush landscapes but can make travel trickier and some camps close. That said, Will sometimes uses this season for guests wanting exclusivity and great birding.
April and May are shoulder months with cooler air, fewer travellers and the bush still green from the rains. Will always tailors Zimbabwe trips based on what travellers want to see and how deep they want to go into the wild.
