Lewa Conservancy

Lewa is where safari meets legacy. Known for its rhinos, sweeping views of Mt. Kenya and meaningful conservation work, this is a place that blends wildlife, community and luxury with ease.

Overview

Lewa Conservancy is one of Kenya’s great conservation success stories. Nestled in the shadow of Mount Kenya, it is home to vast numbers of black and white rhino, thriving elephant herds and a community-driven approach that has become a model for others. Will finds Lewa magnetic. From tracking rhinos on foot to spotting Grevy’s zebra grazing beside reticulated giraffe, every day on the conservancy brings something new. The views are wide and layered, and the wildlife moves freely across landscapes that are as dramatic as they are diverse. But Lewa’s real power lies in its purpose. Every guest contributes to conservation and education projects that directly impact the surrounding communities. It is travel that gives back, without sacrificing comfort or experience. There is something grounded about Lewa. It is not flashy, not overly polished. Just honest, intentional and deeply beautiful. A place that stays with you long after you have gone.

Best Time to Visit

Lewa is a year-round destination, with reliable wildlife viewing and great accessibility in all seasons. The dry months of June to October and January to March are ideal for clear skies, open landscapes and concentrated game viewing. Just note that August and September have the knock on effect of migration season in the Mara and tourist numbers rise.

April and May bring rains and some camps do close, but the conservancy stays accessible and lush. November and December offer short rains and a burst of greenery, great for photographers as clouds roll in and birders looking for that long lost species. With good infrastructure and varied experiences, Lewa is one of the most flexible safari choices in Kenya.
