Namiri Plains
Tanzania, March 2026

Trip Summary
Namiri Plains has become synonymous with iconic black and white photography in the last decade. From Nick Brandt's early work at the start of the century through to those we see on social media today, the quality of work from this tiny corner of the Serengeti is staggering.
For seven nights next March William's small group will have exclusive use of one of Asilia's excellent photographic vehicles and go in search of the areas big cats, focussing specifically on the lions atop the rock kopjes and the abundance of cheetah in the area. Nowhere else in Africa can you get images like this, or enjoy sightings so rarely interrupted by other vehicles.
Timing is crucial here and March typically brings the arrival of the short rains - with huge cloud build ups above the kopjes and regular downpours. While this can never be guaranteed, March provides a great chance of achieving those iconic images you see today.

Overview
The Serengeti can change so much in such a short space of time that these two locations will have you feeling like you have visited two different national parks. The itinerary includes a night in Arusha to start, three nights at Ubuntu Migration Camp and four nights at the world renowned Namiri Plains Camp, one of Will's all time favourites. This trip is currently sold out, but you can join the waitlist or book a space on 'Big Cats of Namiri Plains' in 2027.
23rd March
All travellers to arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (direct flights from Schiphol, Amsterdam). There will be a meet and greet service upon your arrival and a transfer organised to take you to Rivertrees Lodge, Arusha (40 minute drive) where we will be spending the first night. A chance for the group to meet, have a swim, dinner and a drink before heading ‘in to the bush’.
24th March
Early breakfast and a short drive to Arusha Airport for our scenic flight to Seronera Airstrip. The drive to camp takes around 90 minutes (depending on what you see), where you'll arrive in time for lunch and a chance to unpack before heading out on your first evening game drive.
25th - 30th March
Our days will be dictated by two things; big cat behaviour and weather patterns. March is traditionally the pre cursor to the long rains in East Africa. Huge storm clouds build over head, temperatures drop a little ensuring the lions seek the warmth of the rock kopjes - ideal for us - and the odd African storm provides sensational entertainment.
25th- 30th March
We will plan each day based on cats and clouds, following the action and the weather to ensure we get the most interesting images possible. When not out on safari there will be daily editing classes available, ensuring you get the best out of the images you are creating. These will be both 1-to-1 and group sessions - the latter often providing some of the most insightful moments of the trip and really pushing your photography to the next level. Throughout our time in camp we will have exclusive use of one of Asilia's brilliant photographic vehicles. With only three seats these ensure everyone has the space they need to never miss a shot (and for all those long lenses!)
31st March
Sadly all good things come to an end and following a game drive back towards Seronera Airstrip it will be time to catch our flight back to Kilimanjaro International Airport, arriving in time for your fights home.
