Lions can be endlessly frustrating to photograph. I spend hours watching them sleep, and with each passing day I catch myself thinking that maybe it is time to stop. I already have images I am proud of, so why keep going?
The idea of heading to sanctuaries to create staged photographs, as some others in the industry have done, occasionally crosses my mind - particularly on hour 10 of watching sleeping lions. But there is no challenge in that, and without challenge, the work loses all meaning.

Behind the Lens
Kopjes are everywhere around Namiri and on them we go in search of lions. But sometimes it can be just the smallest of termite mounds that gets you the best image.
