Lion Camp

Situated in the most northern reaches of the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia, a truly authentic safari experience awaits in one of the most exclusive, remote and abundant game-viewing areas of Africa.

Life in Camp

The where and the when are crucial in South Luangwa. With Will on hand to take care of your 'when', Lion Camp have it covered when it comes to the 'where'. Tucked in to far northern sector of South Luangwa very few visitors to the area ever make it here, making it a haven for unrivalled game viewing. Will spent 10 days in this part of South Luangwa in October '24 and loved the calibre and exclusivity of each sighting. With game drives, walking safaris and night drives all available guests here can expect to see leopard a plenty, lion and, if lucky, wild dog hunting - arguably the most adrenaline filled wildlife experience going as your guide attempts to keep up with Africa's most efficient hunter as they pursue their prey. The camp itself is small - just 10 tents - with 180 degree views of the Luangwa Valley from your private veranda. Up at the mess area you'll find an infinity pool overlooking the river, fitness suite, snooker table and a fantastic game viewing hide, so you can check in on the wildlife without even leaving camp.

Timing Your Trip

South Luangwa is one of the most seasonally affected areas in Africa. Intense dry seasons are followed by heavy rains each year and so timing is crucial. Camp is closed between November and April for the rains and opens in late May. For Will June and July are prime months - dry season is setting in but the morning and evening light is still remarkable, while the peak temperatures of late September and October are not an issue.

Remarkable Walking Safaris - South Luangwa is the home of the walking safari and is perhaps still the best place on the continent to enjoy safaris on foot. Lion Camp's guides are first rate and this would be a real highlight of your trip.

Will's Ideal Pairing

"For me no safari to Zambia is complete without a trip to the Lower Zambezi. I'm there in 2027 running a group trip to Amanzi and Lion Camp, while those looking for a classic bush camp experience ought to consider Kutalior Chula Island Camp in the Lower Zambezi."
