Mwamba

Mwamba Bushcamp, the sister camp to Kaingo, offers a rustic and intimate safari experience in South Luangwa National Park. With just four chalets the camp provides an authentic connection to the surrounding wilderness, spwecialising in walking safaris and close-up wildlife encounters.

Life in Camp

Mwamba Bushcamp is designed to blend seamlessly with its environment, featuring chalets made from woven reeds and thatch. Each chalet includes an en-suite bathroom and skylights for stargazing from the comfort of bed. The camp’s location along the dry Mwamba Riverbed attracts diverse wildlife, offering guests exceptional viewing opportunities directly from the camp. Activities focus on walking safaris and game drives, emphasizing a deep immersion into the natural surroundings. Mwamba also provides access to Shenton Safaris’ renowned photographic hides, enhancing the safari experience for photography enthusiasts. The camp’s commitment to low-impact tourism ensures a secluded and authentic safari experience, with minimal vehicle traffic and exclusive sightings.

Timing Your Trip

The best time to visit Kaingo Camp is during the dry season, from June to October, when wildlife is most concentrated along the riverbanks, creating the best photographic or game viewing opportunities. The camp’s focus on walking safaris also means you're visiting as the bush is less dense and spotting at its easiest.

Famous For

Exceptional Walking Safaris – With a remote location and expert guides, Mwamba is one of the best places in the Luangwa Valley to explore on foot — quiet, raw, and deeply immersive.

Tiny Footprint, Big Experience – Just four reed-and-thatch chalets tucked under ebony trees means few guests and maximum privacy, with game often walking straight through camp.

Understated Beauty – Open-air en-suite bathrooms, skylight showers for stargazing and natural materials throughout give Mwamba a wild elegance that never tries too hard.
