Sossusvlei & The Namib Desert
Renowned for its towering red sand dunes and striking salt pans, this iconic destination offers visitors the chance to explore surreal landscapes, including Deadvlei’s ancient camelthorn trees set against white clay pans and vibrant dunes.

Overview
In the far reaches of the Namib Desert, where the earth glows red and the sky stretches endlessly, Sossusvlei awaits intrepid travellers. Days begin before sunrise, boots crunching on cool sand as you climb a dune taller than a skyscraper to watch the light break across the desert. From there, the world becomes surreal. At Deadvlei, ancient camelthorn trees stand frozen in time on a white clay pan, framed by the tallest dunes on Earth. The silence here is total, broken only by the wind. Further out, nature drives and quad biking adventures reveal desert-adapted wildlife and vast empty plains. This is a land where you can hike dry riverbeds, sleep on your rooftop bedroll under a sky blazing with stars, and float above it all in a hot air balloon. The isolation is total - and utterly intoxicating.

Best Time to Visit
The best time to explore Sossusvlei is between May and October, when cooler mornings make dune climbing manageable and the skies stay crystal clear. This is also prime time for walking safaris, biking, and photography, with the light at both ends of the day like nowhere else on Earth.
June to August are the coldest nights, perfect for stargazing from your rooftop deck. In September and October, the desert heats up but stays dry and dramatic.
The summer months (November to March) bring rare rains and more dramatic skies, which can transform the desert into something entirely new, green shoots on red dunes and afternoon storms that leave behind glassy reflections on the pans.
Whatever the season, it’s a place that rewards early starts, wide eyes, and a willingness to go a little off track.
