Following Icon's Footsteps

Kenya, October 2026

Trip Summary

Two locations that rarely need an introduction, particularly among photographers. The Maasai Mara has been drawing in some of the world’s best wildlife photographers for decades, be it the Great Migration, abundant big cat populations or teeming bird life there is so much on offer here.

Sadly its fame has also grown at a rate parts of the reserve do not have the capacity for and videos of 40-50 cars around sightings have become all too regular. Thankfully the private conservancies have adapted and grown along side evolving tourist pressures and enforced strict rules around vehicles at sightings, ensuring a significantly better experience for tourists and wildlife.

Nowhere is this more true than in Naboisho conservancy, an area with the highest lion density and stunning safari camps. We’ll spend four nights in this conservancy looking for those lion, the elusive leopard and stunning cheetah from our home at Kicheche Valley Camp, a small, luxury 6 tent property.

From here we will head to Amboseli National Park, an area equally famous and where perhaps some of the most impactful fine art wildlife photography has been created this century by the likes of Nick Brandt, David Yarrow and others. Here we’ll be staying at Elephant Garden Camp, set in its own private conservancy adjacent to the national park, using it as our base to get out on the famous Amboseli lake bed - a photographer’s dream - or in search of super tusker elephants in the heart of the park.

As a bonus, all of our internal flight will be private charters, allowing us increased flexibility on timings so we miss less time on safari, and to work around strict 15kg luggage limits on scheduled bush flights, a photographer's worst nightmare!

Itinerary

Overview

After years of working in Kenya this is Will's best itinerary here yet. Everything is meticulously thought through - from private charters between locations optimised shooting time, off road permits in Amboseli and the most lion dense private area of the Maasai Mara. Those wanting to photograph Kenya's iconic wildlife, this is the best way to do it.

5th October

All travellers to arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International airport, Nairobi. There will be a meet and greet service waiting to assist you through visa control and William will have organised a transfer for you to our accommodation for the evening, Tamarind Tree Hotel (20 minute drive) and meet the rest of the group.

6th October

Our private charter flight will take us down to Ol Seki Airstrip in Naboisho Conservancy, crucially allowing us control of our own timings and more luggage per person (vital on a photographic safari). We will be met at the airstrip by our Kicheche guides and taken back to camp in time to check in before lunch and an afternoon game drive so everyone can start to get a feel for the conservancy.

7th - 9th October

Our days will be determined by our sightings, the weather and how we want to structure the day. Each morning we will head out with a picnic breakfast, allowing us to spend as much time out as we would like to with the areas big cats. We’ll usually stop for breakfast around 9am for a debrief and to fuel up on coffee. From here we can decide to stay out and see what the day brings or head back to camp to work on our images in group editing sessions and one-to-one workshops. Each afternoon we’ll be back out as the wildlife starts to prepare for the evening hunts, awaiting that stunning Mara golden hour as the magic starts to unfold.

10th - 13th October

After our morning game drive we’ll fly to Amboseli, again on a private charter, landing to meet our new guides for our time in this photographers paradise. We’ll head back to camp to check in, unpack and enjoy lunch (always delicious at Elephant Garden). Here our focus will shift from big cats to big elephants, with the areas famous super tuskers our primary targets as well as the magical moments herds cross the Amboseli lake bed.

Days will be split between the famous Amboseli lake bed and heading in search of the regions famous super tusker elephants. Early starts and long days are common in Amboseli, as the low clouds and elephants constant search for food ensures photographic opportunities throughout the day.

14th October

Sadly all good things come to an end and following a game drive back towards Amboseli Airstrip it will be time to catch our flight back to Nairobi. We will do this in time for everyone to catch afternoon or evening flights back to their home countries.

Trip Cost

$13,995: This includes all safari activities, internal private charter flights and transfers, all accommodation, Will and Graeme as your dedicated photographic guides, private safari vehicles throughout and an off road permit in Amboseli. Single supplements are available.

Capture wildlife like never before

Super Tuskers

With tusks weighing over 45kg each, often scraping the ground, and less than 50 alive today, super tuskers are perhaps the most impressive and rarest animal you can see in Africa.

Big Cats

From the lions, leopards and cheetah of Africa to tigers and snow leopards in India and pumas and jaguars of South America, these are some of the most dynamic subjects on earth.
