Serengeti Never Sleeps
Tanzania, March 2026

Trip Summary
In 2022 Will captured an image in the Serengeti that would change his life. The photograph, Romance is Dead, went on to be highly commended at Wildlife Photographer of the Year and made the cover of their annual coffee table book, ensuring enquiries for safaris to the area he took the photo boomed.
Now, for the first time, he is able to offer a a trip to the ultimate big cat photography destination, where species density and rugged landscape combine to create a stunning image combination. At Ubuntu you will follow the migration herds, where lion and cheetah lie in wait to pick off the unfortunate stragglers and the rains begin to draw in, offering the chance for huge sky images with wildebeest covering the ground as far as the eye can see.
From here you will head to Namiri Plains and its famous rock kopjes, hoping to get those dynamic low angle lion shots as the Golden Boys (a coalition of three black maned males) use the rocks as view points, as do cheetah and leopard.
Aimed at all level of photographers there is no previous safari or camera experience required to join this trip.

Overview
The Serengeti can change so much in such a short space of time that these two locations will have you feeling like you have visited two different national parks. The itinerary includes a night in Arusha to start, three nights at Ubuntu Migration Camp and four nights at the world renowned Namiri Plains Camp, one of Will's all time favourites. This trip is currently sold out, but you can join the waitlist or book a space on 'Big Cats of Namiri Plains' in 2027.
28th February
All travellers to arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (direct flights from Schiphol, Amsterdam). There will be a meet and greet service upon your arrival and a transfer organised to take you to Rivertrees Lodge, Arusha (40 minute drive) where we will be spending the first night. A chance for the group to meet, have a swim, dinner and a drink before heading ‘in to the bush’.
1st March
Early breakfast and a short drive to Arusha Airport for our scenic flight to Serengeti South Airstrip (approx 1.5 hour flight time). Here we will meet our guide for our time at Ubuntu Migration Camp and enjoy a game drive to camp in time to check in to our rooms before lunch under the acacia trees in camp. An afternoon game drive to remind ourselves how our camera kit works followed by our first evening around the camp fire.
2nd & 3rd March
Full days following the wildebeest herds, either with a break for lunch in camp and some editing classes or staying out all day to make the most of the action. With the herds there is always a chance of a hunt at any time of day as opportunistic cheetah take a chance while lions rest, and if clouds draw in as they often do in March we could be in for a real treat.
4th March
A short morning game drive to reach the airstrip and catch our flight over to Seronera Airstrip, where we will meet our guides for our time at Namiri Plains and drive the hour or so back to camp. As we did at Ubuntu we will check in, enjoy lunch in the shade and get ready to go in search of lions, leopard and cheetah. Namiri Plains is known for its abundance of predators, particularly its rock climbing lions and cheetah and so it is on these that we will focus.
5th - 7th March
Our days will be dictated by two things; big cat behaviour and weather patterns. March is traditionally the pre cursor to the long rains in East Africa. Huge storm clouds build over head, temperatures drop a little ensuring the lions seek the warmth of the rock kopjes - ideal for us - and the odd African storm provides sensational entertainment. We will plan each day based on cats and clouds, following the action and the weather to ensure we get the most interesting images possible. When not out on safari there will be daily editing classes available, ensuring you get the best out of the images you are creating. These will be both 1-to-1 and group sessions - the latter often providing some of the most insightful moments of the trip and really pushes your photography to the next level.
8th March
Sadly all good things come to an end and following a game drive back towards Seronera Airstrip it will be time to catch our flight back to Arusha. Form here we will transfer by road across to Kilimanjaro Airport and catch our flights back home. Depending on your flight time a day room at Rivertrees can be arranged for you.
